Most players that I have watched through the years don't ever really want to win at the craps tables. In fact, most just don't lose their money....they simply give it away. Until the day I spotted Big Jim.

At first I thought Big Jim (6-4" - 310 lbs) was both just lucky and stupid. Jim was regularly betting $2000 on the pass line ! This was the third time I had seen this this bruiser play, but this time he was winning big.....a dealer told me he was up over $100,000.

Jim was tossing those pink chips ($500) around like they were pennies.....playing the pass line and a few place numbers for $1000 each. He tossed the dice in a nice fluid motion and they always hit 6 inches short of the backboard with each die individually hitting the backboard gently. The following weekend Jim came up and played at my table... right next to me ! I noticed he was playing the don't pass line this time. But I was betting pass and got real hot while throwing, I made 11 straight passes ! I noticed Jim got off of me on my second throw. After my roll was completed I asked him why he "switched" to don't pass this week. He said this casino had barred him from ever betting right again because he had taken them for over $230,000 the weekend before! Jim offered to buy me lunch.

Over lunch, Jim talked about the average player and what they DON'T know. Most of them just pray, hope, and wish. He told me that it was possible to beat the tables 3 out of 5 times you play....losing meagerly on losing sessions but winning fantastic amounts on the others. Jim told me there were 3 secrets to winning:

1. Where to stand at the table. He felt table positioning was very important for winning craps.
2. You must analyze the crowd you are playing with. You must scan the table so that you can come up with the right crowd to assist you in playing winning craps.
3. The most important secret is in HOW YOU SET THE DICE! Jim felt that the dice could be "set" prior to tossing and that you could actually make them "talk". You can become so adept at the PRE-SET that the casinos would eventually bar the player from betting "right" - as they frequently do to him.

Jim offered me a room in his suite after I told him I was going to play in Vegas one more day. Later, up in the suite, he started to unveil his winning strategy to beat the house even more and he said that he could use a partner like myself to help him do it. I was extremely lucky........my first 5 rolls were 7's. Jim's tecnique worked on the table as well as it had up in the suite. After those five straight 7's, Jim's finger codes showed what a fantastic master of the game he really was. It didn't take long before we were thousands ahead !!

Big Jim and I have gone on to beat the craps tables regularly for over 5 years now. Although he is barred from throwing the dice as a "right" player, I have been challenged only a few times and I continue to "throw" the dice whenever I have the opportunity. But my days may be numbered.
